Art & Culture Minister, Ms. Bina Kak today inaugurated the Interpretation Center at UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, Jantar Mantar.
A boon to tourist as the 8 minute audio visual will give a fairly good idea of the various instruments of the observatory. At one time around 20 tourists can see the audio-visual at the centre.

DSC_1955The centre has been developed by the Amber Development & Management Authority (ADMA). The audio visual film will brief the audience about the working principles and chronology of historic events which took place before and after its making. The interpretation centre of such sort is already working in the Jantar Mantar located at different places, such as Varanasi, Mathura, Ujjain and Delhi.

It is to be recalled that the Jaipur observatory was completed in 1734 AD. It is the biggest one among the five (Jaipur, Delhi, Ujjain, Agra and Varanasi) and contains almost all of the Raja’s instruments with a greater degree of precision. The “Rashivalaya yantra” (Zodiac Circle or Ecliptic Instruments) is found no where else except at Jantar Mantar, Jaipur. Sawai Jai Singh II himself used to take astronomical readings in this observatory situated near his palace, now popularly known as “The City Palace”.
