Are you already sad about missing the Pushkar Camel Fair due to the plans wrecked by demonetization in the month of November last year? Frown no more as here’s another reason for you to enjoy the spirit of yet another Desert Camel Festival of India, which is just a week away! The Bikaner Camel Festival is the next big desert festival where camels are the center of attraction for tourists and locals as well 🙂

 

This year the two days Festival of Camels will be organized on January 14-15, 2017. Organized by the department of tourism Rajasthan at Junagarh Fort, Bikaner Camel Festival would host numerous tourist attractions, which include camel races, camel milking, fur cutting design, and many other exciting games. The festival will begin with camel rides and camel safaris for the tourists at the Gram Raisar early morning. This will be followed by a Shobhayatra from Junagarh to Dr Karni Singh Stadium with the inaugural ceremony at the stadium.

The ceremony will include performances by the Bagpiper Army Band and RAC Band. On the occasion competitions like camel decoration, Miss Marwan and Mr. Bikana will also take place.

  1. The camels of Bikaner serve the Indian Army!

Bikaner is the only city of the world which holds the camel training and breeding research centre. A visit to this incredible farm would be an experience in itself!

Unlike Pushkar Camel Fair, Bikaner Camel fair is all entertainment and fun.There are cultural programmes, traditional Rajasthani sports for the amazement and amusement of tourists and locals.  The festival celebrates the strong animal that supports human in the harsh conditions of desert.

Though the Bikaner Camel Festival takes place at the Junagarh Fort, but then there is much more to explore in its interior. Presenting a beautiful blend of Mughal and Rajputana culture, the architecture of Junagarh Fort with mesmerizing wall and ceiling paintings is remarkable.

 

  1. A close encounter with thousands of rats at Karni Mata Temple

Bikaner encompasses numerous famous ancient temples of Rajasthan, Karni Mata Temple being the most visited.  The temple is said to be the home of around 21000 rats and the devotees visiting temple worship them by offering milk and laddoos.
