Annual Summer Festival at Mount Abu

Rajasthan’s popular annual Summer Festival will be celebrated on 13 and 14 May in the state’s only hill station, Mount Abu. It has been organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, the Municipal Board, Mount Abu and the District Administration. The festival will begin with a ‘Mount Abu Carnival’, which will start in a form of a procession from the Nakki Lake to Polo Ground on 13 May.

The tourists will also have a whale of a time participating in various day-long competitions and events. On 13 May at the polo ground will be a cricket match, Abu Quit, Matka Race, Matka Phor, Tug of War (women and men), volleyball competition, Band Display, Rangoli Competition and Musical Chair Race. In the evening there will be a cultural extravaganza in form offolk performances by artistes from Rajasthan, Gujarat and North-East at Aravali Rang Manch.

On 14 May morning, will be trekking and hiking from Nakki lake to Sunset Point. A special attraction of the festival will be the exciting Boat Race at Nakki Lake which will be followed by Treasure Hunt at the Polo Ground. In the evening again the tourists and visitors will enjoy the Kathak and other cultural performances again at Aravali Rang Manch.

It is to be recalled that the Summer Festival is held every year during the month of May on Budh Poornima (14 May this year). The festival celebrates the warmth and cheerfulness of the people of this hill station, who welcome the tourists from the depth of their hearts. The hospitality of the people, their colorful culture and exotic locations have made this festival a-never-to-be-forgotten experience.

Mount Abu is a beautiful hill station in Rajasthan. The tourists and the native’s alike head here to take a break from the smoldering summer blaze. The three-day annual ‘Summer Festival’ in Rajasthan’s only hill station Mount Abu is scheduled from 13 May to 14 May, 2014.

Mount Abu is probably one of the few places in the state of Rajasthan that endowed with lush foliage and a variety of flora and fauna. Besides being a summer getaway, Mount Abu is also a sacred pilgrimage spot. Revered sacred by the Hindus and the Jains, Mount Abu is associated with a number of shrines and the religious legends attached to this city.

Though the place can be visited at any given time of the year but Summer and Winter Festival of Mount Abu has its own fascination.

The festival begins with a ceremonial procession, which starts from the RTDC Hotel Shikhar and gather at the Nakki Lake Chowk followed by folk performances of Rajasthan & Gujrat states. The grand finale of the Festival a display of dazzling fire works all three days. This three day colourful festival is organized by the Rajasthan Tourism, Municipal Board, Mt.Abu & District Administration.

The second and third day of the festival is more interesting because of various competitions that take place the whole day. Skating Race, skater’s Show, CRPF Band Show, Boat Race, Horse Race, Tug of War, Panihari Matka Race and Deepdan add to the excitements of the celebration.

The gorgeous setting of Mt. Abu with its rocky hills and placid lakes forms an apt venue for this exuberant show. In addition to the various performances, tourists can enjoy the natural beauty of this hill station with its pleasant climate.

Winter Festival is held in Mount Abu every year during the last week of December. The festival celebrates the warmth and cheerfulness of the people of hill station, who welcome the arrival of season and its guests from the depth of their hearts. This three days colorful festival is organized by the Rajasthan Tourism and Municipal Board, Mt. Abu.

Winter festival begins with a ceremonial procession, which start from the RTDC Hotel Shikhar. The procession gathers at the Nakki Lake Chowk followed by folk performances of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab & Haryana’s folk artists.

There is a band Show, Boat Race, Skating Race, Panihari Matka Race, Tug of War between Foreign Tourists and Domestic Tourists, Mehandi Mandana, Musical Chair Race, Deepotsav & in the last Fireworks are very attractive to watch and participate. The grand finale of the festival is made brighter by a display of dazzling fireworks all three days.

The dates for winter festival this year are December 29, 30 and 31, 2013.

Mount Abu Winter Festival

It is the call of the mountains’ again with the annual Mount Abu winter festival slated to be held from December 29 to 31, 2012.

To make the celebratory occasion truly vibrant in its truest sense, colours of mehndi’ and rangolis’ will mingle with the festive strains of shehnai’ and the Army band’, while the masters of chisel and the brush will create yet another repository of masterpieces. Visitors can look forward to gilli danda’ with 20X20 cricket’, kite flying’ with hot air balloon’, and sufi kathak’ with break dance’, poetry reading’ with visual art’!

The inaugural procession, participated by the colorfully dressed citizens, will begin with marches by various performing groups from all over the country. Soon after the signing off of the march at Love Lake Nakki’, there will be a scurry of activities with various competitions, games events throughout the day to culminate every day at Aravali manch’, where on the night of December 31 there will be a rocking mega night from 8pm to midnight.  Along with these cultural activities water sports also form part of the festivities. Rowing competitions are held on the lake. The grand finale of the festival is made brighter by a display of dazzling fireworks on three days.
