Udaipur:  Among the Top 15 Cities of World

Venice of the East and the City of Lakes- Udaipur is a lakeside paradise of shimmering marbles and oozing romance. A peaceful city on the banks of Lake Pichola wins hearts of millions. It has been ranked third best out of the listed 15 best cities of the world by Travel + Leisure magazine based on sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value. Udaipur excelled leaving behind Mumbai and Delhi and is the only Indian city in the list.

The renowned artist promoted by British Council- Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon is touring India all this month, and this Tuesday, the Museum of the Moon landed in Udaipur where it was showcased at the City Palace’s Moti Chowk. It stayed in the sky till Wednesday night i.e. Valentine’s Day, the promoters said.  Numerous people of the Lake City and  tourists were enthralled not only to see the ‘Moon’ so close but also to feel its magnificence. They posed in various positions, some danced, some pretended to hold it on palm and carry on shoulders, while others kissed under the massive structure and rejoiced.

The 23-feet wide replica of the moon has been made from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter camera in collaboration with UK Space Agency and University Of Bristol and the Association for Science and Discovery Centres.

Giving details of the artwork to media, country director of British Council Alan Gemmell said, “2018 marks the 70 years of the organization in India and the end of the UK-India Year of Culture. We have been inspired everyday of the last 7 decades by the artists, students, scientists and policy makers we’ve worked across India”.

The Museum of Moon has so far traveled to 30 countries and this month it is touring India. Five surprise destinations had been chosen for its public display. After Bangluru and Mumbai, Udaipur is the third city where it has come, Alan informed. The Museum of Moon is half a million times smaller than the real moon- meaning one centimeter of it represents 5 kilometers of lunar surface.

Udaipur Wins Big at Condé Nast Traveller-Readers Travel Awards 2017

After being declared as the ‘Best Wedding Destination’, Udaipur has got another honour. The city has been awarded as the second best ‘Favorite Indian Leisure Destination’ by Conde Nast Traveller India. Divya Thani, Editor in Chief of Condé Nast Traveller magazine conferred the award at the award function organized in New Delhi.

The multi-hued culture of Rajasthan will be on full display during the upcoming Kumbhalgarh Festival at the majestic Kumbhalgarh Fort. The festival aims to enthrall the onlookers with everything that Rajasthan stands for. Various cultural performances and competitions are planned to give the participants a glimpse of the rustic side of the state.

Something new is on the cards this year as the festival will have a fusion of basic Indian classical like Odissi dance and Bharatnatyam and Rajasthani folk. There will be Kalbeliyas, Langas, Terahtaali and Kachchi Ghodi to name a few.

Tourists will be able to participate in fun contests like turban tying competition and win prizes. Besides this, puppet shows will add more excitement to Kumbhalgarh Festival.

Here’s what to expect at this 3 day festival which will be held from 1st to 3rd December 2017.

1st December: Rajasthani Folk Fusion – Gair, Terahtaali, Langa, Kalbeliya, Kachchi Ghodi will be performed altogether on stage. After this Odissi Dance will be performed by Kavita Mohanti.

2nd December: Classical Dance fusion – Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, KuchiPudi, MohiniAttam. All artists will be on stage at the same time. The theme for this classical performance is based on “Vande Mataram”.

3rd December: Flute and Sarod – Bansuri Vadan by Ronu Majumdar and Sarod by Dev Jyoti Bose. These two eminent artists will present a jugalbandi on stage.

The programmes look exciting so make a plan to enjoy the next weekend at Kumbhalgarh Festival in Rajsamand near Udaipur.
