Jodhpur RIFF 2017 Begins Today

The 5 day annual cultural extravaganza, Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) starts today. The festival is organized to coincide with Hindu festival Sharad Purnima which is a full-moon night. The imposing Mehrangarh Fort of Sun City Jodhpur is the venue of the event like every year. Jaswant Thada will also host some of the events.

2017 is the UK and India cultural year. To celebrate this, The Spree (Paisley) Twins will perform tomorrow. Many foreign artists are collaborating with local performers to present never seen before acts. More than 350 international artists will grace the event with their unforgettable performances. Traditional folk music by Bhil tribe will be one of the highlights.

Today, the festival started with a Children’s Folk Morning which was meant for school groups only. The real fun will begin at opening night tonight. Tonight you will get to witness traditional Rajasthani folk performances from 8:30 pm to 10 pm.

To delight the tourists coming to Rajasthan, the state tourism department has come up with an initiative to revamp its various Railway Stations with attractive and vibrant traditional art work and Rajasthani paintings. Following the Railway Stations of Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur and Bikaner, now Jodhpur joins the group!!

Jodhpur Railway Station has been around since 1885 to be precise. And now it gets a brand new look with colorful and artistic paintings all over to amaze the tourists in Blue City!

To change the look of this ancient station of Rajasthan, regional artwork has been painted on its ceilings, walls and pillars. Mesmerizing geometrical flowers, kings, queens and royal lifestyle are depicted, making the station look both colorful and artistic.

As Jodhpur is a major tourist destination, this effort will sure be appreciated by tourists. Moreover, it is also a matter of pride for the localites, not just to see tourism department trying to bring something new but also to see their local art being promoted in such a beautiful way.

This is not all, Jodhpur rail division has also penned and composed its glory song and this has been prepared by rail personnel themselves. The song is played at the station occasionally!

Jodhpur’s “Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF)” is here to spark up the moods!

On chilling October evenings, when the sun is setting and the sky is filled with orange and reddish hues, you hear light music passing by your ears and the wind embracing your skin gently.  Everybody wrapped in shawls and sweaters, occupying their place on the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, and listening to the enthralling music of Rajasthani Folk musicians. This is exactly how the setting of Jodhpur’s Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) is, which is conducted every year in and around Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort.

Jodhpur RIFF is among the world’s top 25 music concerts which soak you totally into Rajasthani culture. This year, the fest is being conducted from 13th to 17th October. The event goes on from day to night where talented performers showcase their area of expertise and enthrall the spectators. From Rajasthani folk music to traditional dances, from circus acts to plays, everything keeps people engaged throughout.

Intra-state flights from Jaipur to Jodhpur and Udaipur to operate from next week

Those who all are travelling to Rajasthan can take a sigh of relief now as there will be enhancement in air connectivity between major tourist destinations in Rajasthan. The flight would start from Jaipur to Jodhpur in the first phase and then Udaipur the next week. The most breathtaking fort in Jodhpur is the mighty Mehrangarh Fort. It is situated on a 150m high hill. Rao Jodha constructed the fort in 1459. You will be amazed by its grandness. There is also a museum within the fort that showcases armors, robes, jewellery, palanquins and other royal artifacts. Other attractions of the fort include palaces, galleries, and temples.

You have to try zip-lining at Mehrangarh. Zooming across the fort while you are suspended from a rope will give you the ultimate adrenalin rush.

Jaswant Thada lies to the left of the Mehrangarh fort complex. It is a royal cenotaph made up of white marble. It was built in 19th century to commemorate Maharaja Jaswant Singh. The Mausoleum glows in the sunlight because of the thin marble used in its construction.

The temples are located in Thar Desert about 65 kilometers from Jodhpur. Osian is also known as Khajuraho of Rajasthan and has temples dating back to 8th and 11th centuries. There are 18 temples in total and the most famous are- Sun Temple, Jain Temple and Kali Temple.

Mandore is another ancient town near Jodhpur. It is believed that demon king Ravana got married here. There is also a temple dedicated to Ravana in the town.

You have to visit Mandore Gardens to see the Temple of 33 Crore Hindu Gods. The garden also has artistic cenotaphs, high rock terraces and memorials.
